TopoDroid map converter

Convert an SVG exported from TopoDroid into a clean map with the agreed cave symbols. The conversion runs in your browser, and the file is never sent to a server.

How to use it

  1. In TopoDroid, export the plan or the profile as an SVG file.
  2. Choose the file here.
  3. Press Convert and download the finished map.

Keep the file name as TopoDroid wrote it: a name ending in p.svg is a plan, and a name ending in s.svg is a profile.

Advanced settings

What the map shows

  • Removed: the grid, the centreline, the splays and the station names.
  • Walls: a thin black line with a tan band on the rock side. A dashed wall marks a passage above or below.
  • Pillars: closed pockets in the rock colour. Pits: a line with ticks toward the drop. Chimneys: a dashed line. Slopes: alternating long and short hachures.
  • Water in blue, boulders in light grey.
  • Points: stalagmites, stalactites, water drips, debris, continuations (?) and labels.
  • Profile: a depth scale at the side. Plan: a scale bar and a north arrow.

Run it yourself

The tool is a Python script. You can download it and run it on your own machine (Python 3 with numpy, lxml and shapely):

Download topodroid_to_cavemap.py

python3 topodroid_to_cavemap.py in.svg out.svg [--view plan|profile] [--rotate180]

The first time, the page downloads the converter engine (Pyodide, about 30 MB) from the jsDelivr content network. Your files stay on your computer.
